FAQ
How it works
What is a Holograph?
The word holograph means a document entirely written in the author’s hand, usually in the context of a holographic will.
A Holograph Company Holograph© is a re-imagined holographic will.
- Secure digital storage
- Clear instructions for your family and your digital life
- Holly - an AI assistant to guide you
holograph
noun:a document wholly in the handwriting of its author
also
:the handwriting itself
Word origin reference: Merriam-Webster
First Known Use: 1623, in the meaning defined above.
What is the definition of a Principal, an Owner, and a Delegate of a Holograph?
- Principal - a user who creates their end-of-life plan by adding Items and instructions in the various sections of their Holograph.
- Owner - the Principal who is responsible for paying the subscription fee, can manage users, and is the administrator of the Holograph.
- Delegate - a user who the Principals of a Holograph designate as the person to carry out the Principals’ end-of-life plan.
Why can’t I just use a shared folder or cloud storage instead?
A cloud storage folder can hold files. It cannot do this job.
- Access after death is not guaranteed. Cloud accounts can be locked, suspended, or deleted under inactivity policies. Family members typically cannot access a deceased person’s account without a legal process that takes time and documentation — if it succeeds at all.
- General storage has no role-based access. Whoever has your login has everything. Holograph lets you control exactly what each person can see, down to individual items, and updates take effect immediately.
- A folder has no structure. Your family will face multiple types of information with no guidance on what to do first, what is missing, or how to act on any of it. Holograph is organized around what Delegates actually need to accomplish.
- There is no guidance. A folder cannot answer questions. Holly can — she is trained specifically in estate planning, account administration, and the practical realities families face after a death.
- Static files go out of date silently. Your accounts, subscriptions, and coverage change constantly. Holograph is a living platform designed to be kept current.
- Holograph improves. A folder does not. Holograph Company is continuously building new features, expanding Holly’s knowledge, and developing integrations with banks and platforms to do more of the hard work for your family over time. A file on a drive will always be exactly what it is today.

- Memorialize it - leave it as a memorial (available on platforms like Facebook)

- Pass it on - transfer account access or ownership to someone you designate

Holly
How is Holly different from ChatGPT, Claude, or other AI chatbots?
Generic AI chatbots are useful, but they are not experts in everything and they can hallucinate.
Holly works differently than a generic chatbot. She is entirely focused on one topic, has verifiable citations, and additional privacy, security, and safety guardrails.
Holly
- ✔Purpose-built for end-of-life planning
- ✔Sits alongside your encrypted Holograph and can only see what you share
- ✔References real legal statutes, official guides, and in-house proprietary material in responses, so you know the sources are not hallucinated
- ✔Builds checklists, letters, and step-by-step playbooks based on Holograph Company templates (coming soon)
- ✔Holly works with partner banks, insurance companies, and others to do difficult tasks for you (coming soon)
Generic AI Chatbots
- ✖Broad, general knowledge
- ✖No connection to your estate plan
- ✖Relies on publicly available estate planning training materials
- ✖Builds generic documents
- ✖Designed for conversation, not real-world follow-through
Do you train Holly with my data?
No.
- Your Holograph data - including documents, notes, and account information - is stored encrypted and not used to train AI models.
- When you ask Holly a question, the text of your question may be securely processed by an AI provider in order to generate a response. These providers are restricted from using that information to train their models.
- Holograph does not store or retain your Holly conversations. What you discuss with Holly stays between you and the app. The only way your conversation reaches Holograph Company is if you choose to send it yourself using the Email transcript button at the top of the Holly chat — that action is entirely voluntary.
- We have established a User Advisory Board who shares information with us, and advises us on how to improve our product.

Privacy and Security
How is my information protected?
- Your Holograph data is encrypted at rest, so it is not stored in plain, readable form.
- Uploaded files and sensitive information are protected using layered security controls designed for highly personal information.
- We separate storage, permissions, and encryption controls so your information has more than one layer of protection.

Planning ahead
What happens to my Holograph when I pass away? (coming soon)
- If you are the Owner of the Holograph with at least one other Principal, control passes to the other Principal who becomes the new Owner.
- If you are the Owner and only Principal of a Holograph, control passes to your Delegates, after a verification process.
- If you are a Principal, but not the Owner of the Holograph, the Owner continues in their role.
Can you help me create a will or trust, financial plan, insurance plan, or funeral plan?
- No, but we partner with a network of attorneys, financial advisors, insurance providers, and other professionals in your state. (coming soon)
- At your request, we will connect you with a partner who offers the service you are seeking. (coming soon)
Private Vault
What is the Vault and how should I use it?
- Every Principal gets a private Section called a Vault, which works differently than the other Sections.
- Items stored in your vault cannot be seen by other Principals, or shared with Delegates.
- Your Vault can be used to store private matters:
- Documents for inherited trusts you may not control
- Digital accounts
- Documents or information related to children from a prior marriage
- You do not have to use the Vault - every family manages their affairs uniquely.
- Items you place in your private Vault do count towards your total storage limit.
Can I share an Item from my Vault?
- Vault items are by default not shareable.
